How well a drug candidate binds to plasma proteins can affect its distribution and hence its clearance from the body. The free fraction of a drug is important to predict in vivo clearance. Our Protein Binding Assays are performed to assess a test substance’s tendency to bind to human serum albumin (HSA), rat serum albumin (RSA) and human α-acid glycoprotein, thereby determining its freely available fraction in the blood. The assays are possible with human and rat serum albumin. The combination of the assay for binding to human serum albumin with the assay for human α-acid glycoprotein yields clearly defined and highly reliable estimates of full plasma protein binding.
Depending on your requirements, these assay services can be performed individually or as a combined service.
For highly lipophilic compounds that strongly bind to plasma proteins we offer a special high protein binding assay.
